They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing while expecting different results.
Can I suggest that most individuals are doing exactly that in their dating lives? Whether they are divorced and newly single, single and ready to mingle, single and frustrated with dating experiences, single looking for a long-term partner, or single and desire to be married, many believe they have just chosen poorly in the past and are simply trying to “choose better” with the same mentality and approach to dating.

FOCUS: IDENTIFY BELIEFS, BEHAVIORS AND BAGGAGE

The things that may cause the most problems in dating and relationships are unhealed wounds and unmanaged insecurities. The saying, “If it’s Hysterical, it’s Historical” speaks directly to this.

If a person’s response to something is more exaggerated than it should be, there is often something from their past that is driving that. Something has been triggered. An old wound has been uncovered or exposed. The other person might not be the problem but just the trigger for something you still haven’t dealt with.

FOCUS: ADDRESS WHAT TO LOOK FOR AND WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

You may be familiar with the quote, “What we see depends mainly on what we look for.” This is true in life and relationships. If we’re looking for the wrong traits in a potential partner, we’ll end up finding people with those traits. If we’re NOT looking out for Red Flags or Toxic Behaviors, we’ll end up running right past those into the wrong relationships, as well. If we know what to look for and what to look OUT for, we’ve got a great chance of connecting with healthy individuals who share similar values.
